Today’s beer profile comes to us from Barrie Ontario’s Flying Monkey Craft Brewery. 12 Minutes to Destiny is a Raspberry Hibiscus Lager and it’s here just in time for the summer. I picked up my can at my local LCBO.
I’m not much of a lager drinker nor do I drink much ‘flavoured’ beers. This one caught my eye because Flying Monkeys is no ‘gimmick beer’ brewery. They are a big time player in the Ontario craft beer scene and I thought it was high time I ventured outside my comfort zone.
Get to the Beer!
12 Minutes to Destiny is a gorgeous ruby-red colour with a quickly vanishing white top. The carbonation level is medium to high. The aroma was very mild citrus/orange. The flavour is mildly floral with some citrus notes and the finish is tart. There’s really no bitterness.
After careful consideration and deliberation the group consensus was positive. I the tart finish really made this beer a success. I think the mild floral notes could be achieved using floral noble hops. Overall, this beer is a rather refreshing summer thirst-quencher.
Flying Monkey Business
Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery has a psychedelic approach to their branding and brewing. They seems to push the boundaries of taste and aren’t afraid to release experimental brews for the public to experience. You might not fall in love with every experimental beer but that’s really the beauty of craft beer – the breweries make unique beers in small batches that the ‘macro’ breweries never could.
