Today’s beer profile features a classic Bavarian style beer from a brewery from Southern Ontario cottage country. A Doppel Do Ya is crafted by Lake of Bays Brewing Co in Baysville, ON. As the can explains, the doppel weizen style means “double wheat” or strong wheat.
A Little Background
Lake of Bays Brewing Co was founded in 2010 in the lovely Muskoka Region. Their focus is crafting great beer in small batches. The beer lineup features mostly Bavarian and American styles. I must admit, this was not my first beer from this brewery. I should find a good reason to go to Baysville to visit the brewery soon.
A Doppel Do Ya is and absolutely gorgeous ruby-red colour with medium carbonation and vanishing white top. The aroma doesn’t give too much away – just a slight floral scent. The flavour is of caramel, subtle vanilla, and banana/clove. The finish is a lingering sweetness.
Try This Beer!
A Doppel Do Ya is a very well crafted beer. It’s subtle complexity is where it really shines. The stunning ruby-red colour serves as an invitation to beer crafted with care.
Bavarian styles have been steadily gaining popularity here in North America, but many breweries tried to keep up by pumping out a Helles or Marzen. This beer is something a little different and absolutely worth a try. I picked mine up at my local LCBO.
