As summer slowly fades into fall, I’m still grasping onto summer beers to keep me warm. This week’s beer profile features a wonderful summer beer, Ruff Draught by Muskoka Brewery. This award winning beer is made in collaboration with the band, Born Ruffians and is styled as a Tropical Blonde Ale.
Muskoka Brewery are known for their well crafted lineup of tasty ales and interesting seasonal offerings. Muskoka Detour is one of my favourite beers and never lasts too long in my fridge. As for Born Ruffians, I am aware of the band and a few of their songs. Nothing against the band, but I’m really here for the beer.
Ruff Draught pours a nice clear and pale golden yellow. The carbonation is medium and there’s a thin white foamy top. The aroma is strong citrus. The flavour is also strong citrus with malt sweetness and slight tang finish. There’s no harsh bitter finish. Ruff Draught finishes crisp and clean.
Overall, this beer is perfect for a barbecue lunch. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a Tropical Blonde Ale before but its definitely an apt description.
